Job Description: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Location: Green Bay, Wisconsin

Organization: Private Investments, Family Office

Overview
We seek an accomplished Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with expertise and a proven record of accomplishment in overseeing operating companies and integrating mergers and acquisitions (M&A). The ideal candidate will oversee financial operations for a Family Office company specializing in financing and equity investments for private businesses while supporting operating management and expanding our portfolio of Northeast Wisconsin-based companies.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (master’s degree or CPA preferred). Minimum of 5 years of senior-level financial leadership experience in private enterprise or Family Office settings and proven expertise in investment management, tax planning, and regulatory compliance. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate dynamics effectively.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in multi-generational Family Office or private business environments and familiarity with Northeast Wisconsin’s business landscape are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Oversee Financial Aspects of Asset-Based Business Units

  • Financial Expertise: Strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting for business units. Proficiency in cost accounting, inventory management, and operational financial analysis.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Ability to oversee financial teams across multiple business units and ensure compliance with internal controls. Proven record of accomplishment of working closely with operational teams to optimize financial performance. Effective communication skills to present financial insights to senior leadership, boards, and capital partners.
  • Industry Knowledge: Understanding of asset-based operations and related financial complexities. Familiarity with ERP systems and advanced Excel and Database skills for data analysis. Experience managing audits and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Corporate Development: M&A Analysis and Business Case

  • Investment Analysis Knowledge: Proficiency in pre- and post-LOI due diligence, including Q of E, market research, financial modeling, and competitive analysis. Ability to build robust business cases to support investment decisions. Experience in evaluating strategic fit within the portfolio’s long-term objectives.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to analyze industry trends and identify high-potential investment opportunities. Proven ability to develop actionable recommendations for senior leadership based on analysis. Familiarity with private capital-like deal processes and frameworks for value creation.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent presentation skills to articulate business cases to stakeholders effectively. Collaborative approach to working with investment committees and external advisors.

Financial Planning & Reporting

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling processes for the Family Office and its operating companies.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports for stakeholders, including performance analysis of investments and its operating companies.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial and related regulatory requirements and maintain transparency in reporting.

Tax Planning & Compliance

  • Develop tax-efficient strategies in collaboration with external advisors to minimize liabilities. Stay updated on federal, state, and local tax regulations affecting the Family Office’s operations.

Treasury Management

  • Experience in cash flow management, liquidity planning, and capital allocation strategies.
  • Ability to negotiate favorable terms for credit facilities, loans, and other banking agreements. Expertise in managing relationships with banks and financial institutions.
  • Risk Management: Understanding of interest rate risk management and financial instruments. Experience optimizing working capital across diverse business units or investments, and covenant management. Familiarity with legal structures and documents to ensure good order and standing. Understanding risk insurance and deploying it into and across enterprises.

Additional Desired Experience

M&A Deal Lead

  • Deal Structuring and Execution: Experienced in leading mergers and acquisitions (M&A), including deal sourcing, structuring, closing, and post-merger integration. Skilled in valuation modeling, due diligence, stakeholder negotiations, and integration planning to align operational, cultural, and financial goals for long-term success, ensuring strategic alignment through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proficient in legal documentation (e.g., purchase agreements, financing structures) with a focus on mitigating risks.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to identify and model synergies and value creation opportunities in potential acquisitions. Need to manage complex transactions under tight deadlines. Strong analytical mindset to assess risks and returns effectively.
  • Relationship Management: Skilled at building relationships with target companies, advisors, and internal stakeholders. Excellent interpersonal skills to lead cross-functional teams during the deal process.

Strategic Financial Leadership and Expertise

  • Develop and execute financial strategies to support the Family Office’s investment goals, including private investment ventures, closely held and controlled or otherwise, and local business partnerships. Provide strategic insights into market trends, risk management, and opportunities for growth. Collaborate with the Family Office leadership to align financial decisions with long-term objectives.
  • Leadership & Communication: Effective communicator capable of presenting complex financial strategies to stakeholders. Collaborative leader who can work closely with controllers or other accounting/finance team members, investment teams, and external advisors. PowerPoint or presentation skills.

Investment Management

  • Oversee a diversified portfolio of assets, including private equity and credit, commercial real estate, alternative investments, and potentially even conventional liquid securities. Evaluate to help optimize asset allocation to maximize returns while managing risk. Conduct due diligence for potential investments and monitor ongoing performance.

Wealth Preservation & Succession Planning

Implement and occasionally help design strategies to preserve multi-generational wealth while aligning with family and organizational values. Partner with estate planning experts to facilitate seamless wealth transfer across generations.

Operational Oversight

  • Enhance financial systems, tools, and processes to improve efficiency and scalability. Oversee cash flow management, accounting practices, and internal controls. Manage relationships with external advisors (e.g., legal counsel, auditors, investment managers). Provide necessary oversight or, in some instances, management of IT and ‘office management’ functions.

Education & Communication

  • Act as a financial educator for organizational members to simplify complex matters and foster financial literacy and informed decision-making. Facilitate discussions on financial goals across multiple constituents, possibly even generations.
